If small message text makes SMS difficult to read or reply to, BIG SMS gives you larger text, clearer conversation threads, and a simple editor. Set it as the default messaging app, open a conversation, select a message and tap Reply, write with the Android keyboard you choose, and tap Send. The editor and keyboard are separate: BIG SMS does not enlarge every keyboard.
The useful result is a repeatable message task: identify the right conversation, write a short answer, correct it, and send it without hunting through a crowded message screen.
Set BIG SMS as the default messaging app
Open BIG SMS and accept its default-app prompt if it appears. If it does not, use System settings → Apps → ⋮ → Default apps → Messaging app, then select BIG SMS for Seniors. Check this role before testing incoming or outgoing SMS.
Read and reply in the large editor
From the BIG Launcher home screen, tap Messages and open the conversation you want to read. Tap the message you want to answer, choose Reply, type your answer, and tap Send. For a new text, use Messages → Write new, choose a contact or enter a number, type the message, and tap Send.
The current BIG SMS listing describes large fonts, clearer message threads, a simple SMS editor, and three font sizes. If the send control needs a more convenient position, open Preferences → Messages and adjust Show Send button; the manual lists Above the text, Bottom of the screen, and Above the keyboard.
On the current free edition, only the five most recent SMS conversations are visible. After 20 sent SMS, a link to biglauncher.com is appended to every SMS. Keep those limits in mind when deciding whether the free message list covers the phone’s normal use.
Choose the keyboard separately
BIG SMS uses the Android keyboard you choose. Keep the keyboard that has the right keys and layout for you, or select another one in Android before opening the message editor. Then type, correct one character, and check that Send is easy to find; BIG SMS does not control the key size, layout, or send key inside every keyboard.
If someone sends a picture message
When a received message shows This is MMS, tap Download, then tap the downloaded item to view or play it. BIG SMS can receive MMS text and attachments; it cannot create a new MMS, so use another messaging app when you need to send one.
Check one complete reply
- Send an ordinary test SMS to the phone from a known contact.
- Open Messages, open the conversation, and check that the text is readable.
- Select the message, tap Reply, use the chosen keyboard, and send a short answer.
- If picture messages matter, receive one, tap Download, and confirm that the attachment opens.
