To start BIG Phone calls on loudspeaker, open BIG Launcher → Preferences → Phone → Default audio device for calls and choose Speaker. During a call, use the audio-device button to change to the earpiece or a connected headset.
This changes the starting audio device, not the volume. Make sure BIG Phone handles your calls; open it and accept the default-app prompt, or use System settings → Apps → ⋮ → Default apps → Calling app and select BIG Phone for Seniors.
Choose Speaker as the default
- From the BIG Launcher home screen, tap the three dots ⋮ next to the clock.
- Choose Preferences, then open Phone.
- Tap Default audio device for calls.
- Select Speaker.
The same setting lists Default, Earpiece, Bluetooth, and Wired Headset. Only an available connected device can be selected during a call.
Switch back during a call
On the BIG Phone call screen, tap the audio-device button. If it opens a device list, choose an available device; if it cycles through devices, tap until you reach the earpiece, Bluetooth headset, or wired headset you need. Speakerphone can be heard by people nearby, so switch to the earpiece or a connected headset before a private conversation.
Check the default and switch audio
- Make a short outgoing call with no headset connected and confirm that it starts on Speaker.
- Ask a known willing contact to call back and confirm the incoming call also starts on the intended device.
- Connect the headset you actually use, switch to it with the audio button, and confirm that the call leaves the loudspeaker.
Start calls on the audio device you choose
Try BIG Phone for Seniors, set Speaker as the starting device when it fits your day, and keep the in-call switch available.
